Instagram Grid Maker
Split one photo across your profile grid. Choose the rows, get the tiles numbered in the order you post them, and download the set. The image never leaves your browser.
Your image
Drop in the photo you want to spread across your grid. It is sliced in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
Drop an image here
or click to choose a file. It stays on your device.
Always 3 columns. That is what a profile grid is.
Your tiles
Drop an image in and the tiles appear here, numbered in the order you post them.
Post number 1 first. Instagram puts your newest post top left and pushes the rest right and down, so a grid only assembles if you upload it back to front.
Portrait tiles are taller than the grid shows. The profile page crops each one back to a square from the centre, so the seams line up on the grid but the top and bottom of every tile only appear when someone opens the post.
Click any tile to save it on its own.
The part every splitter leaves out
Every splitter cuts the image. What goes wrong is the upload, because Instagram builds a profile grid newest first. Your most recent post takes the top left slot and shoves everything else one place right, wrapping onto the next row. So the tile that belongs in the bottom right corner is the first one you post, and the tile that belongs top left is the last.
Post them in reading order and you get your picture mirrored through both axes, which looks like a glitch rather than a design. The tiles above are numbered in posting order for that reason: upload the one marked 1, then 2, and the grid assembles itself.
Why the columns are fixed and the rows are not
The Instagram profile grid is three columns on every device and there is no setting to change it. Tools that offer you a 4 x 4 or 5 x 5 grid are letting you build something you cannot post: the tiles come out fine and then wrap wrongly the moment they land on a profile. Rows are a real choice, columns are not, so only one of them is a control here.
3 columns x your rows = tiles, posted highest number to lowest
Square or portrait, and what the grid does to each
The profile grid displays square thumbnails. A square tile at 1080 x 1080 is therefore the honest default: what you slice is what people see. Portrait tiles at 1080 x 1350 fill more of a phone screen when someone opens the individual post, which is why portrait is the better shape for a normal post, but the grid crops each one back to a centre square. The seams still line up, because the crop is the same on every tile. The top and bottom of each tile simply do not appear until the post is opened.
Either way the splitter crops your source to the grid's aspect ratio first and slices afterwards. Slicing first and letting each tile crop itself would move every seam by a different amount, which is the one failure a grid cannot survive. Dimensions for every other Instagram surface are in the post size guide, and the size checker will tell you what Instagram does to a file before you commit to it.
The cost nobody mentions before you do it
A grid post is not permanent. Every post you publish afterwards pushes the whole thing one place to the right, so a nine-tile image is broken by your next post and only realigns after three more. That is the arithmetic of a three column grid, and there is no way around it.
Two ways teams live with it. Post in threes from then on, so the grid shifts a whole row at a time and stays assembled. Or treat it as a launch moment, accept that it lasts until the next post, and spend the nine slots on something worth that. Neither is wrong. Deciding which one you are doing before you cut the image is what stops the regret.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do you make a grid post on Instagram?
Split the image into tiles, then upload them back to front. Instagram puts your newest post in the top left of the profile grid and pushes everything else right and down, so the tile that belongs bottom right has to go up first and the top left tile last. The splitter above numbers every tile in posting order so you do not have to work it out.
What size should each Instagram grid tile be?
1080 x 1080 pixels. The profile grid shows square thumbnails, so a square tile is what actually gets displayed. Portrait tiles at 1080 x 1350 are allowed and take up more room in the feed, but the grid crops them back to a square from the centre, so the extra height only shows when someone opens the individual post.
How many tiles should a grid be?
Three, six or nine. Three is one row and reads as a single wide banner. Nine is the classic square and fills the whole first screen of a profile. Past nine the picture stops being visible all at once on most phones, and every new post you make afterwards shunts the whole thing out of alignment, which is the part people regret.
Does a grid post break when I post again?
Yes, and this is the real cost of the format. Each new post pushes the grid one place to the right, so a nine-tile image survives exactly nothing. It comes back into alignment after three more posts, and is broken for the two in between. Teams that use grids either post in threes or accept that the effect is temporary.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The file is decoded and sliced by your own browser using a canvas, and the tiles are built on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, which is why the tool needs no account and works with the tab offline once it has loaded.
Why are the columns fixed at three?
Because the Instagram profile grid is three columns wide and you cannot change it. A tool that offered four or five columns would let you build something you have no way to post. Rows are yours to choose, columns are not.
The grid looks good. Is there a second one?
Splitting the image takes a minute. Having nine slots' worth of something worth looking at, this month and next month, is the part that stalls. Selzee reads your reviews, comments and post results, turns them into concepts worth making, and learns from what each one does.
