X (Twitter) Profile Picture Downloader (FREE TOOL)
Paste an X or Twitter username, @handle or profile link. See the profile picture as the full file instead of the 48 x 48 copy, then download it.
Built and checked by Marián Cabadaj. Last checked October 2026.
What the sizes here come from
X API, data dictionary for the profile image field, shown as a _normal file.
ScrapeCreators, Twitter profile for legacy.profile_image_url_https, the address the tool starts from. A third party: the data source the tool calls. We measured the sizes on pbs.twimg.com ourselves.
The example pictures on this page are Selzee's own mascot, drawn at the sizes X keeps.
The short answer
- An X profile picture downloader turns a username or a profile link into the avatar file. Profile data points to the _normal file, a 48 x 48 copy. This tool asks for the same picture without that suffix, so you get the full file.
- On 25 October 2026 the full file was 400 x 400 for NASA and Duolingo and 398 x 398 for Nike. The tool prints the real size of the file you get.

The files X keeps of every profile picture
Largest first, named by the end of the file address. The example name is the one in the ScrapeCreators docs.
| Pixels | File name | What it is | |
|---|---|---|---|
| No suffix | the upload size | D2kh-M28.jpg | The first file the tool asks for. |
| _400x400 | 400 x 400 or less | D2kh-M28_400x400.jpg | The fallback when the plain file is missing. |
| _bigger | 73 x 73 | D2kh-M28_bigger.jpg | A small copy. The tool does not ask for it. |
| _normal | 48 x 48 | D2kh-M28_normal.jpg | The address the profile data gives. The last fallback. |

How to download an X profile picture
-
Paste the account
A username, an @handle, an x.com or twitter.com link, or a link to a post. The tool reads the name in it.
-
See the full file
The tool looks up the public profile and shows the avatar without the _normal suffix, with its pixel size.
-
Save it
One click downloads the file, named after the account. Download another empties the field.
One mascot, from avatar to ad
Two Selzee ads with Selzy, the Selzee mascot, the same character as the avatars above.
Next to a customer quote
Selzy gives a thumbs-up beside a review. The same face that sits in a 48-pixel circle on X carries a whole ad.
Answering in the replies
Here the ad looks like a reply thread, with round avatars beside each name. That is where a profile picture does its work.
What people use it for
Fair uses, with your own picture or with public ones for reference.
Test your avatar at 48 pixels
Put the full file next to the small copy and see if your logo or face still reads in a timeline.
See who stands out in a thread
In a busy reply thread the avatar is read before the name. Save the ones in your niche and compare them side by side.
Recover your own picture
Lost the original logo file of your account or a client's? Download the copy X still keeps.
Brief a designer
Collect the avatars of brands you like, with a few of their posts, so a designer sees the look you want.
Protected accounts, copyright and fair use
This tool asks for the same public profile data that a logged-out visitor sees on x.com, and only the picture comes back. It cannot open protected posts, followers or messages, and it does not try.
A profile picture still belongs to the person or brand behind it. Keep one for reference, and use your own as you like. Before you put someone else's in an ad, a post or a product, ask them. Many avatars show a face, and a face counts as personal data in many countries.
Why the file you get is not 48 x 48
The profile data from the ScrapeCreators X profile endpoint points to the _normal file, which is 48 x 48. The tool drops the suffix and asks for the plain file first, then _400x400, and only then the small one.
The full file is never bigger than what the account uploaded, and X does not scale it up. That is why Nike's plain and _400x400 files were both 398 x 398 on 25 October 2026. Blowing up a copy adds pixels, not detail.

How we checked
Last checked: 25 October 2026. Logged out, we opened the avatar files of NASA, Duolingo and Nike on pbs.twimg.com with each suffix and read their pixel size. We read the X API data dictionary on the profile image field and the ScrapeCreators documentation for the endpoint the tool calls. X Help did not load for us, so this page does not quote it.
- NASA: 400 x 400 with no suffix, 400 x 400 as _400x400, 73 x 73 as _bigger, 48 x 48 as _normal.
- Duolingo: 400 x 400 with no suffix and as _400x400, 48 x 48 as _normal.
- Nike: 398 x 398 with no suffix and as _400x400, 48 x 48 as _normal, so a smaller upload stays smaller.
- Every way to write an account, post links and twitter.com links included, is in one test file that the page and the server both read.
- The download comes from our server, which only fetches a stored address on an X picture host. It never takes an address from you.
- A file over 5 MB, a redirect or a file that is not a picture is refused.
