What the facts here come from
Nielsen Norman Group, 3 persona types for proto personas: personas made from a team's assumptions, without new research.
HubSpot, how to make a buyer persona for the definition of a buyer persona.
HubSpot, Make My Persona for what HubSpot's tool asks and returns, in the comparison.
LiveChatAI, Free AI Persona Generator for what LiveChatAI's tool asks and returns, in the comparison.
The example ads on this page come from the Selzee gallery.
The short answer
- A buyer persona is a short profile of one person who would buy from you: who they are, what bothers them, what they want, and what stops them buying today.
- Type what you sell. The tool writes 3 personas, each a different person with a different reason to buy, and 2 to 3 ad hooks for each one.
- Treat the result as a draft. Nielsen Norman Group calls personas made without new research "proto personas": a fast way to put a team's guesses on paper. Check them against your reviews and sales.
- One ad speaks to one persona. Two personas usually means two ads, even for the same product.

Add as preferred sourceWhat does an ad written for one persona look like?
Nine ads from the Selzee gallery. Each speaks to one buyer. The caption names that buyer the way this tool would, and quotes the line in the ad that speaks to them. Two are the same Dust and Glow powder shampoo, aimed at two different people.
What is a buyer persona?
HubSpot defines a buyer persona as "a research-based profile of your ideal customer", with their goals, challenges and buying behaviour. In ad work it answers one question: who is this ad for, and what will make them stop?
A persona is a person, not a market. "Women 25 to 34 who like wellness" fits a million people and gives an ad nothing to say. "Washes oily hair every morning and is tired of it" gives the ad its first line.
A brand often sells to more than one kind of buyer. Each buys the same product for a different reason, so each needs its own ad.
What is in each persona?
Who they are
One line: a likely age range, life stage and situation. Enough to picture the person, with no invented income or job title.
Pains
The problems they have before they buy. These become the "before" in your ad.
Wants
What they want to be true afterwards. These become the promise.
Objections
The doubts that stop them buying today. An ad that answers one of these does work a discount cannot.
Where they spend time
The kinds of places to reach them, named by platform and topic: where your ad or post should run.
Ad hooks
2 to 3 first lines written for this persona, each 140 characters or fewer, each on a different angle. Copy one into your next ad.
How do you check an AI persona against real buyers?
The tool works from what you type, so its personas are educated guesses. Nielsen Norman Group says proto personas are useful because they make a team's assumptions explicit. The next step is to check them against real buyers.
- Read your reviews. Find the words buyers use for the problem. If no review sounds like a persona, cut it or rewrite it.
- Look at who bought last month. Check your last orders, or ask whoever talks to customers. Which persona do they match?
- Run one ad per persona. Same product, same budget, a different hook for each. The ad that wins tells you which persona is real.
How does it compare with other free persona generators?
We read both pages on 2 November 2026: HubSpot's Make My Persona and LiveChatAI's persona generator. HubSpot's form also says HubSpot may contact you about its products.

What the other two tools look like
How do you use the AI persona generator?
-
Say what you sell
A sentence or two, or paste the text from your home page. Add the niche and the price point if you know them.
-
Read the 3 personas
Each one is a different buyer. Keep the ones that sound like your customers.
-
Copy a hook or a persona
Copy one hook into your next ad, or copy the whole persona into your brief.
How does Selzee use personas to make ads?
Selzee does this step for every brand it makes ads for. It reads your website and suggests up to 3 personas, each with pains, the outcome they want, objections and what they use today. You pick, edit or add your own in your brand settings.
Then it writes one ad angle for each product, persona and awareness stage, so the same product gets different ads for different people.

How we checked
Last checked: 2 November 2026. The definitions come from Nielsen Norman Group and HubSpot; the comparison from the two tool pages, read the same day.
- The tidy rules were worked by hand before the code: bullets and numbering stripped, repeats and items with a link or an @ handle dropped, at most 3 items a list, hooks over 140 characters dropped, and a persona with an empty field left out. The code agrees with every case.
- When fewer than 3 complete personas come back, the code asks the model once more. A persona still incomplete after that is left out, and the page says so.
- Ten runs on the "Try an example" input were checked for the rules above, then graded by a second AI model for how specific the personas are, how different they are from each other, and anything invented.
- Typical, boundary and hostile inputs ran through the real page: an empty form, a two word product, a non-English product and an instruction typed into the product box.
