What the sizes here come from

YouTube Help, Manage your channel branding for the 98 x 98 render size, the JPG, GIF, BMP and PNG formats and the 15 MB limit. It gives no upload size.

YouTube Help, Channel banner and profile picture tips for a square or round image being best.

ScrapeCreators, YouTube channel for the 72, 120 and 160 pixel copies. A third party: the data source the tool calls. We measured the upload sizes on YouTube's picture host ourselves.

The example pictures on this page are Selzee's own mascot, Selzy, drawn at the sizes YouTube keeps.

The short answer

A YouTube profile picture downloader takes a channel @handle or link and gives you the channel picture as a file. YouTube's channel data lists it at 72, 120 and 160 pixels, say the ScrapeCreators channel docs. This tool asks for the upload itself, which is often much larger.
There is no fixed full size. On 25 October 2026, the upload was 1296 x 1296 for Duolingo, 1000 x 1000 for The Pat McAfee Show and 500 x 499 for MrBeast. The tool prints the real size of the file you get.

A thumbs-up at the bottom of the screen

Selzy appears small on a tablet in this Selzee ad. It is the same face as the channel pictures above, and it still reads at that size.

This Selzee ad ends on the name alone. A channel picture does the same job beside every comment and video: it tells people who made it.

Why people download channel pictures

Real reasons, with your own picture or with public ones for reference.

Test your picture before you change it

Shrink your own upload to 98 pixels, the size YouTube Help says it renders at, and check the face or logo still reads.

Brief a designer

Send the picture with the ads and videos you like, so the designer sees the style the brand already shows.

Public channels, copyright and fair use

This tool gets the picture a public channel page shows to anyone who opens it, logged out. It needs no sign-in and sees nothing else on the channel.

The picture still belongs to the creator or brand behind the channel. Keep a copy for reference, and use your own as you like. To put another channel's picture in an ad, a video or a product, ask first. Many channel pictures are faces, and in many countries a face is personal data.

Why the full size changes from channel to channel

Each copy has its size at the end of its address, such as =s160. The ScrapeCreators field list names three: 72, 120 and 160 pixels. The tool changes the ending to =s0, which asks for the upload with no resize.

YouTube Help gives no upload size to aim for. It says the picture renders at 98 x 98, so a channel can upload 500 pixels or 1296 and both look the same on the channel page. The file you download shows the difference.

YouTube profile picture downloader: FAQ

How do I save a YouTube channel's profile picture?

Copy the channel's @handle or link, paste it into the box above and press View profile picture. When the picture shows, press Download. When your channel needs ads too, start free with Selzee.

What size should a YouTube profile picture be?

YouTube Help says the picture renders at 98 x 98 pixels, may be a JPG, GIF, BMP or PNG with no animation, and must not be over 15 MB. Its tips page says a square or round image is best. It names no upload size in pixels. For ads in every size a platform asks for, let Selzee make them from your store URL.

Why did I only get a 160 x 160 YouTube picture?

The upload did not load, so the tool fell back to the largest copy the channel lists, which is 160 x 160. The size under the picture tells you which file you got. For ads as sharp as your channel picture, paste your store URL into Selzee.

Why is the full-size picture of some channels not perfectly square?

The tool gives the upload as YouTube stores it and does not crop or stretch it. MrBeast's was 500 x 499 when we checked. When the picture is sorted, Selzee makes the ads from your store URL.

Which YouTube links can I paste?

An @handle, a handle without the @, a youtube.com/@handle link from any tab such as /videos, or a youtube.com/channel/ link with the UC channel ID. Video links (watch?v= and youtu.be) and old /c/ links do not work: open the channel and copy its @handle. Selling from your channel? Start free with Selzee.

Why does the tool say no channel is called that handle?

No public channel answered to the handle you pasted. Check the spelling, or open the channel and copy the link from the address bar. To fill your feed with ads in your brand, start free with Selzee.

Is it OK to reuse a YouTube channel's picture?

Your own channel's, yes. Another channel's picture belongs to its owner: keep it for reference and get permission before you publish it. This is not legal advice. For ads that are yours to run, Selzee makes them from your store URL.

How we checked

Last checked: 25 October 2026. Logged out, we opened the channel pictures of The Pat McAfee Show, MrBeast and Duolingo on yt3.googleusercontent.com at =s0, =s160 and =s72 and measured each file. We read YouTube Help on channel branding, the YouTube Help tips for banners and pictures, and the ScrapeCreators documentation for the endpoint the tool calls.

Duolingo: 1296 x 1296 at =s0, 160 x 160 at =s160 and 72 x 72 at =s72.
The Pat McAfee Show: 1000 x 1000, 160 x 160 and 72 x 72.
MrBeast: 500 x 499, 160 x 160 and 72 x 72, so the upload size is different on every channel.
Every way to write a channel, channel IDs included, is in one test file that the page and the server both read.
The download comes from our server, which only fetches a stored address on a YouTube picture host. It never takes an address from you.
A file over 5 MB, a redirect or a file that is not a picture is refused.
