Where the numbers here come from

Triple Whale, Facebook Ad Benchmarks by Industry (Updated 2026 Data) for the sales defaults and the industry menu: medians of more than 40,000 brands on Meta, August 2025 to July 2026.

WordStream by LocaliQ, Facebook Ads Benchmarks 2026 for the lead defaults: medians of 452 US lead campaigns, April 2025 to June 2026. The $48.60 CPM is our arithmetic from its CPC and CTR.

Meta Business Help Center, About learning limited for the about 50 results a week an ad set needs to leave the learning phase.

These are other advertisers' medians, not a price from Meta. Your own CPM, CTR and conversion rate decide your cost, so replace the defaults with the numbers from your Ads Manager.

The short answer

  • On Meta in 2026 the median brand pays $15.06 for 1,000 impressions, gets a 2.39% click-through rate and converts 1.53% of clicks (Triple Whale, 2026).
  • At those medians, $3,000 a month buys about 199,203 impressions, 4,761 clicks and 72.8 sales, a cost of $41.18 per sale.
  • An ad set needs about 50 results a week to leave Meta's learning phase (Meta Business Help Center). At $41.18 a sale that is about $8,825 a month.

What does a Facebook ad cost in 2026?

Meta has no price list. Every time someone could see an ad, an auction decides which ad shows and what it costs. So the honest answer to "what does a Facebook ad cost" is a range of medians, and the three numbers that move your cost most are the ones the calculator asks for.

CPM is the price of reach, and you control it least. CTR and conversion rate come from your ad and your page. If your CTR doubles, every click costs half as much at the same CPM.

The 2026 Meta medians the calculator opens with

Metric Median What it means
CPM (1,000 impressions) $15.06 What the auction charges to show your ad
CTR (click-through rate) 2.39% How many viewers click
CPC (cost per click) $0.63 Our arithmetic: CPM / (1,000 x CTR)
Conversion rate 1.53% How many clicks become a purchase
CPA (cost per purchase) $38.99 The median brand's cost per purchase

Source: Triple Whale, Facebook Ad Benchmarks by Industry (Updated 2026 Data). Triple Whale prints a CPM for three industries only: Health & Wellness $21.80, Baby $11.50 and Books & Music $14.01. For the others the calculator keeps the $15.06 median. Verified 2026-11-02.

How the calculator works: a worked example

The example the calculator opens with: a $3,000 monthly budget at the 2026 Meta medians, a $15.06 CPM, a 2.39% CTR and a 1.53% conversion rate.

  1. Impressions

    $3,000 / $15.06 x 1,000 = 199,203 impressions in the month.

  2. Clicks and cost per click

    199,203 x 2.39% = 4,761 clicks. $15.06 / (1,000 x 2.39%) = $0.63 a click.

  3. Sales and cost per sale

    4,761 x 1.53% = 72.8 sales. $3,000 / 72.8 = $41.18 a sale.

  4. Learning phase

    72.8 sales x 7 / 30 = 16.9 a week, under the 50 Meta needs. The ad set stays Learning limited.

How much budget does Meta's learning phase need?

Meta marks an ad set Learning limited when it is unlikely to get about 50 optimization events in the week after its last significant edit (Meta Business Help Center). The calculator checks every result against that line, because a budget that cannot reach it leaves Meta guessing who buys.

At the 2026 medians a sale costs $41.18, so 50 sales a week (214.3 a month) need about $8,825 a month, or $294 a day, in one ad set. Switch the calculator to "I have a goal" and type 215 to see it.

If that is out of reach, run one ad set instead of several, or optimize for an event that happens more often, such as add to cart, until the account can pay for purchase optimization.

Sales or leads: what changes?

For lead forms the numbers change. WordStream's 2026 lead benchmarks, from 452 US campaigns run from April 2025 to June 2026, put the median CTR at 2.70%, the cost per click at $1.80, the conversion rate at 8.54% and the cost per lead at $27.39 (WordStream by LocaliQ, 2026).

WordStream prints no CPM, so the calculator uses $48.60: the $1.80 CPC x 1,000 x 2.70% CTR. With those inputs it shows $21.08 a lead, not $27.39. That is not an error. Each median is taken on its own, across different campaigns, so medians do not multiply back into each other. Read the $27.39 as the typical lead cost and the calculator as the cost your own rates give.

How to lower your Facebook ad cost

The ad is the input you control most. A higher CTR cuts the cost per click, and a clearer offer lifts the conversion rate after the click. Both cut the cost per sale at the same CPM.

Facebook ads cost calculator: FAQ

How much does it cost to run Facebook ads for a month?
You choose: Meta never spends more than your budget. What the budget buys is the question. At the 2026 Meta medians, $3,000 a month buys about 199,203 impressions, 4,761 clicks and 72.8 sales. Type your own budget into the calculator above. For ads that lift the click rate, Selzee makes them from ads already winning.
How do I calculate my Facebook ad budget?
Start from the result you want. Budget = results x cost per result, and cost per result = CPM / (1,000 x CTR x conversion rate). At a $15.06 CPM, a 2.39% CTR and a 1.53% conversion rate, 100 sales cost $4,118.47. To spend that budget on better ads, start free with Selzee.
How much should I spend on Facebook ads per day?
Enough for about 50 results a week per ad set, if you optimize for sales: at the 2026 medians that is about $294 a day. Meta's own floor is far lower: $1 a day for ad sets charged on impressions (Meta Business Help Center). When you need more ads to test, Selzee makes them for your brand.
What is the average CPM on Facebook in 2026?
$15.06 at the median, up 13.24% on a year earlier, across more than 40,000 brands from August 2025 to July 2026 (Triple Whale, 2026). Health & Wellness paid the most at $21.80, Baby the least at $11.50. To get more from each impression, try Selzee free.
How much does a Facebook lead cost?
The median cost per lead was $27.39 in WordStream's 2026 benchmarks, with an 8.54% conversion rate (WordStream by LocaliQ, 2026). Switch the calculator to Leads to load those rates. For lead ads worth the click, Selzee makes them from your URL.
Is $10 a day enough for Facebook ads?
$10 a day is $300 a month: about 19,920 impressions and 476 clicks at the 2026 medians, and about 7.3 sales. That is enough to test an ad, not enough for an ad set that optimizes for sales to leave the learning phase. For the ads to test with it, start free with Selzee.
Why does the calculator not match my Ads Manager?
It uses the rates you type, and the defaults are other brands' medians. Put in the CPM, CTR and conversion rate from your own Ads Manager report and it will match your account much more closely. Attribution windows and delivery also differ by ad set. To raise your own CTR, Selzee makes ads from what works now.

How we checked

  • The formulas: impressions = spend / CPM x 1,000; clicks = impressions x CTR; CPC = CPM / (1,000 x CTR); sales = clicks x conversion rate; cost per sale = CPM / (1,000 x CTR x conversion rate). A month is 30 days.
  • Every number on this page was worked out by hand first, then checked against the calculator's own code in 9 cases: 3 typical, 2 on the learning line (exactly 50 a week, and one dollar under) and 4 hostile ones (a zero rate, text, a negative budget and a click rate over 100%).
  • Results a week are cut down to one decimal, never rounded up, so 49.99 a week never reads as 50.
  • The benchmarks were read at the source on 2 November 2026: Triple Whale, Facebook Ad Benchmarks by Industry (Updated 2026 Data), WordStream by LocaliQ, Facebook Ads Benchmarks 2026 and Meta Business Help Center, About learning limited.
  • The two Ad Library ads were captured from Meta's public Ad Library on 2 November 2026.
