The short answer
- The Pinterest pin size Pinterest recommends is 1000 x 1500 pixels, a 2:3 shape. That one figure answers pinterest image size, pinterest post size and the best size for Pinterest pins.
- A Pin taller than 2:3 might get cut off in people's feeds, Pinterest says. It publishes no cut-off point, no minimum and no maximum size.
- A Pin can be BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF or WEBP, up to 20 MB on the web. A shorter shape, like a square, shows whole.

Four real Pins, four results
Checked with this tool on 13 October 2026, at the size each brand's Pin is stored on Pinterest.
Target, 1000 x 1500
Exactly what Pinterest recommends, 152 KB. Kept as is: nothing to cut and nothing to fix.
HubSpot, 736 x 1104
The right 2:3 shape, but about 46% fewer pixels than 1000 x 1500. It uploads; a larger export would carry more detail.
Tasty, 1215 x 2160
A 9:16 Pin, taller than 2:3, so it may be cut off in the feed. 16% of the height is past 2:3.
LEGO, 1080 x 1080
A square. Shorter than 2:3, so it shows whole and takes less height in the feed than a 2:3 Pin.
How to check a Pinterest pin
-
Drop the Pin in, or type the size
The checker reads the file in your browser, so nothing leaves your device and nothing is uploaded.
-
See how it sits against 2:3
Shown whole, too small or taller than 2:3, in one line, with any other problem under it.
-
Crop it to 1000 x 1500
Drag the preview to choose what stays, or fit the whole Pin on a blurred or plain background. Pick JPG or PNG and download.
Why check a Pin before you publish
The shape decides how much room a Pin gets in the feed, and Pinterest only says what is safe at 2:3.
Tall Pins are a gamble
Pinterest says a Pin taller than 2:3 might get cut off, and gives no line. The checker shows how much of yours sits past 2:3.
Stories do not fit the feed
A 1080 x 1920 file made for a story or a Reel is 9:16. Pinned as it is, 16% of its height is past 2:3.
Small files look the part
A 736 x 1104 Pin has the right shape and about half the pixels of 1000 x 1500. On screen the shape gives nothing away.
Pinterest ad size: the same 1000 x 1500
The Pinterest ad size for a standard image ad is the same as an organic Pin: a 2:3 aspect ratio, or 1000 x 1500 pixels. Pinterest Business Help lists it under standard image ads, which can run in paid campaigns or as organic Pins, and its creative best practices give the same figure.
Two things are stricter for ads. The file type is PNG or JPEG only, where an organic Pin may also be BMP, TIFF or WEBP. The limit is 20 MB from a computer and 32 MB in the app. A Pin that passes this checker as a JPG or a PNG under 20 MB passes both. If you also want to see what other brands run, the Pinterest ad library guide walks through where to look.
Where a tall Pin gets cut off
Search for the Pinterest pin size and almost every result agrees on 1000 x 1500. That number is Pinterest's own, and so is the 2:3 shape. Where guides part ways is the tall end: Pinterest only says a Pin with an aspect ratio greater than 2:3 might get cut off in people's feeds, with no point where that starts.
So the checker draws no cut-off line of its own. It shows how much of your Pin is past 2:3, the one shape Pinterest promises. On 13 October 2026 we looked at logged-out Pinterest search results at 1440 and 390 pixels wide: Pins up to 1:2.5 showed whole there, and square and 4:5 Pins showed at their own shape. Your home feed, signed in, may not do the same.

How to export a Pin that fits
-
Build at 1000 x 1500
That is Pinterest's recommendation, 2:3. A larger 2:3 file, such as 2000 x 3000, is fine too.
-
Keep the message in the top two thirds
If you go taller than 2:3, put the headline and the product where a 2:3 frame would still hold them.
-
Export a story file again
A 1080 x 1920 story is 9:16. Cut it to 1000 x 1500, or let the checker do it, before you pin it.
-
Save as JPG or PNG
Both are on the organic list and on the ad list, so one file works as a Pin and as an ad.
-
Check it before you pin
Pinterest shows the Pin only after you publish it. The checker shows the shape problem first.
Who this checker is for
Shops pinning their products
A product shot cropped for Instagram is often 4:5 or 1:1, which shows whole but shorter than a 2:3 Pin.
Bloggers and creators making Pin graphics
Long text Pins drift taller than 2:3 as the copy grows, and the checker says when they have gone past it.
Teams running Pinterest ads
Ads take PNG or JPEG only, so a WEBP export that works as a Pin needs saving again for an ad.
What the checker tells you
Every check returns the same four things, so the answer has the same shape whichever file you drop in.
The verdict
Kept as is, shown whole, smaller than recommended or taller than 2:3. One line that says what this file does on Pinterest.
The problems
All of them, worst first, not only the first one. A file can be the wrong type and too tall at once.
The preview
Your Pin as the download will be, at 2:3, with the frame drawn on it. Move the crop and the preview follows.
The fix
Crop or fit to 1000 x 1500, drag the crop where you want it, pick JPG or PNG, and see the file size before you download.

How we checked these figures
Last checked: 13 October 2026. The 2:3 shape, the 1000 x 1500 size and the line about Pins getting cut off come from Pinterest Business Help; the file types and the 20 MB web limit from Pinterest Help. Pinterest's Pin spec page also lists safe zones in pixels without saying which canvas they belong to, so the checker does not draw them. We ran the checker on four real Pins on 13 October 2026, and looked at logged-out Pinterest search results at 1440 and 390 pixels wide.
- A 2:3 Pin, at any size, is kept as is.
- A Pin taller than 2:3 is flagged, with the share of its height past 2:3.
- A Pin shorter than 2:3 shows whole and is never cut.
- A Pin under 1000 wide is flagged, without claiming Pinterest scales it.
- BMP, JPEG, PNG, TIFF and WEBP pass, and anything over 20 MB is flagged.
