The short answer
- A Pinterest banner is what Pinterest calls the profile cover, the wide image at the top of a business profile. It must be at least 800 x 450 pixels, and Pinterest recommends 16:9. The same answer holds for the pinterest cover photo size and the profile cover image size.
- Pinterest gives no larger size. On a computer the cover shows whole at 640 x 360; on a phone it is drawn at 390 x 211 or 360 x 211, about 2% off two edges, with a Back and a Share button over its top corners. We measured all of that on 13 October 2026.
- Only a business account can upload one. A board cover is a different image, chosen per board.

Why check a cover before you upload
Pinterest's help page covers the crop, but says nothing about what sits over the corners afterwards.
You crop it yourself on a phone
In the app Pinterest has you crop or pan to 16:9. A wide or a square file loses a large part of itself there.
Two corners are covered
On a phone a Back button sits over the top left and a Share button over the top right. A logo in a corner ends up under one.
Old covers are often too small
The Home Depot and Etsy run covers under 800 x 450. A new upload has to meet the minimum.
Pinterest board cover size: a different image
The Pinterest board cover and the profile cover are easy to mix up, but they are two different images. The profile cover is the one wide image at the top of a business profile, at least 800 x 450. A board cover is, in Pinterest's words, the largest image when viewing the board from your profile. You change it in Edit board with the plus icon, on iOS or a computer, and Pinterest gives no size for it.
A profile does not need an uploaded cover at all. On 13 October 2026, in the profile data pinterest.com loads, Starbucks, Disney and Airbnb showed a cover made from their own Pins instead of an uploaded image. If you upload one, it is the 16:9 file this checker grades.

How to export a cover that survives

Build at 16:9, 800 x 450 or larger
Pinterest asks for at least 800 x 450. A larger 16:9 file, such as 1920 x 1080, is fine.

Keep the top corners empty
On a phone the outer fifth of the width, in the top third, sits under a button at each top corner. Put sky, wall or colour there.

Leave a little at every edge
A phone takes about 2% off two edges. Text that touches the frame can lose its last letters.

Save as JPG or PNG
The cover page names no file types. JPG and PNG are the two the Pin pages list for every Pinterest image.

Check it before you upload
The checker draws the crop and the two button corners on your own file before anyone sees it live.
Who this checker is for
Shops setting up a business profile
The cover is the widest thing on the profile and the first thing a visitor from a Pin sees.
Brands reusing a banner from another network
A LinkedIn or X header is 4:1 or 3:1, so as a Pinterest cover you crop away 41% or more of it.
Designers handing a cover to someone else
The person who uploads a cover is rarely the person who made it, so one check before handover saves a redo.

Every check returns the same four things, so the answer has the same shape whichever file you drop in.

All of them, worst first, not only the first one. A file can be too small and the wrong shape at once.

The 800 x 450 minimum, the 16:9 shape and the business account rule come from Pinterest Business Help, read at the source; the page names no file types, so that row is marked. The display sizes and the buttons are our own measurement: Target's and Sephora's profiles on pinterest.com, logged out, in a browser at 1440, 1024, 390 and 360 pixels wide, on 13 October 2026. The Pinterest app may draw the cover differently. We ran the checker on four real covers the same day.
- A cover under 800 x 450 is flagged as under Pinterest's minimum.
- The shape is 16:9, and you crop anything else to it on upload.
- A larger 16:9 cover is not flagged.
- The 390 x 211 and 360 x 211 phone views are drawn as measured.
