Where the rules here come from
The tool's own rules for the hook score, its point steps and the ideal hook length per placement: 12 words for Meta primary text, 6 for a Google headline, 9 for an email subject line, 10 for a landing page headline. These are Selzee's thresholds, not platform limits.
The value equation for the 8 value levers, the same 8 angle types Selzee's own ad pipeline gives every argument.
Gemini 2.5 Flash the model that writes the 3 test variants, through our server.
Each vendor's own pricing page for every price in the table, read signed out on 2 November 2026; each price links its page.
The examples on this page were made by the same code the tool runs.
The short answer
Short answer: ad analysis tools answer four different questions, so pick the tool by the question. What ads are live? The free ad libraries, which our Competitor Ad Finder opens for one brand. Why does one ad work? A copy or creative reader, like the free tool above. How did my ads perform? Account analytics, such as Meta Ads Manager or Motion. What do I make next? Selzee, which makes finished ads for your brand from the formats winning on Meta right now. The table below groups 10 of them by question, free beside paid. The same split holds if you searched for an ad analyzer or an ad copy analyzer.

No single tool answers all four questions. The free tools cover what is live and why one ad works; the paid tools cover performance at volume and what to make next. Each tool's own page is under its name.
| Tool | The question | What you give it | What you get back | Best for | The catch | Price | Free option |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Competitor Ad Finder (Selzee) | What ads are live? | One brand name | Links to its live ads in the Meta, Google and LinkedIn ad libraries and the TikTok library for your market | A first look at a competitor's live ads | It shows the ads, not spend or results. For spend estimates and monitoring, see the ad intelligence tools. | Free | Yes, no sign-up |
| This ad breakdown (Selzee, this page) | Why does this ad work? | The ad copy and where it runs | A hook score with every step, the angle, the value lever, the triggers, what to test next and 3 AI test variants | Reading one ad's copy before you test it or brief the next | It reads the words only: no image, no video, no results. | Free | Yes, no sign-up; 3 variant runs a day |
| GoMarble AI Ads Analyzer | Why does this ad work? | A Facebook ad link or an uploaded image or video of 30 seconds at most, plus the landing page URL | A report on the visuals, the copy and the hook, with scores | A read of the creative itself, image or video | The landing page URL is required, and the analyzer leads into GoMarble's paid platform. | Free; the platform from $139/mo | Yes, the analyzer |
| Hawky | Why does this ad work? | Your connected Meta, Google and TikTok ad accounts | AI agents that read your account, make new creatives from your winners and answer questions about it | Teams that want an agent to act on the account, not only a report | No public price: every plan is Talk to sales. | Talk to sales | No free plan or trial |
| Meta Ads Manager | How did my ads perform? | Your Meta ad account | Results for every campaign, ad set and ad, with breakdowns and an export | Anyone running Meta ads | Meta only, and building a creative view by hand is slow. | Free with an ad account | Yes |
| Selzee's free ads report | How did my ads perform? | An ad-level CSV export from Meta Ads Manager or TikTok | Each ad scored 0 to 100 against your account's own averages, the winners, the tiring ads and what to test next | A fast read of an export without connecting the account | It reads the numbers and the ad name, not the creative. | Free | Yes, no sign-up |
| Motion | How did my ads perform? | Your connected ad accounts | Creative analytics: what is working, why, and the ads to make next | Teams running enough creative that reporting on it is a job | Starter covers up to $50k a month in ad spend; Pro and Growth are priced on a call. | From $999/mo | Free trial, no card |
| Madgicx | How did my ads perform? | Your connected Meta ad account | An AI ads manager for Meta that audits the account, launches ads and moves budget | Meta-first brands that want reporting and automation in one tool | The price rises with your monthly ad spend. | From $45/mo under $1K ad spend | 7-day free trial |
| Selzee | What do I make next? | Your store URL | Three finished ads for your brand in the first run, made from formats winning on Meta right now, with the evidence behind them | Brands that need the next ads made, not another report | It makes new ads; it does not break down an ad you already have. | From $19/week or $75/month, credit-based | Start free, no card |
| Atria | What do I make next? | Your connected ad accounts and the brands you follow | Agents that say what is working, what is missing and which ads to make next | Creative strategists who want competitor research and briefs in one place | Its Black Friday Cyber Monday prices may end; billed annually. | From $129/mo | Start free with 1,000 credits, no card |

What a copy read can and can't tell you
A copy read sees only the words, so it cannot tell you the results, what the video does or whether the landing page keeps the ad's promise. Each needs a different tool. A long run is no proof either: Selzee's own pipeline treats an ad live 7 days or more as a winning signal, a signal and not proof of results.
Whether the ad made money
Results live in your ad account: open Meta Ads Manager, or drop its export into our free ads report. The Meta Ad Library shows no spend or results for ordinary ads.
What the first 3 seconds do
A video's hook is the picture and the on-screen text in its first 0 to 3 seconds, plus the pacing. That needs a video read, which Selzee's product does.
Whether the landing page matches
The click lands on a page this tool never sees. GoMarble's analyzer asks for the landing page URL for that reason.
What a phrase really means
The rules match phrases, so "not tired of" still reads as a pain point. Read the hook yourself before you trust the angle.
One real ad, from paste to the next test
We took one long-running video ad from the Meta Ad Library: Liquid Death's "extreme sport: parenting" ad, live since 15 June 2026, 140 days on 2 November 2026 (Ad Library ID 747620751766037). A run that long is a signal, not proof of results. Here it is going through the tool, and what a video read adds.
Paste the primary text
We pasted the ad's primary text, 656 characters, and left the placement on Meta primary text.
Read the score and its working
40/100: the base 50, minus 10 because the hook runs 15 words where Meta primary text wants 12 or fewer. The hook holds no number, no "you" and no question.
Read the angle and the lever
Angle: Curiosity, then Offer / price. Lever: Ease, from "easy-drinking". The rules also read "for when you could use more" as an audience: the phrase-match limit from the section above.
Pick a variant to test
The ad has no Dream outcome, Nightmare or Perceived likelihood line, so those are the 3 variants the tool writes. Test one against the original on the same budget.
What a video read adds
The copy is a third of this ad. Selzee's product reads the video itself and returns the transcript, the on-screen text, the hook in the first 0 to 3 seconds, a shot list with timestamps, the pacing, the visual style, the music, the call to action, the format and a short verdict.
What is ad analysis?
Ad analysis is breaking an ad down into its hook, its messaging angle, its emotional and rational triggers and the audience it speaks to, to understand why it works or falls flat and decide what to test next. The same breakdown works on your own ads and on a competitor's.
What you can do with the breakdown
Diagnose an underperformer before pulling budget
See whether the hook, the angle or a missing objection is why a live ad is not converting.
Compare two angles side by side
Break down two versions and pick the one to scale on hook score and lever, not gut feel.
Turn a competitor ad into a counter-angle
Break down a competitor's ad, spot the objection it skips and brief the angle that owns it.
What they need is "one person in the company who sits down ... and actually says: this I like, this I don't, and why."

How we checked
We checked the tool on the same points as every free tool we ship:
- The hook score is rule-based. It starts at 50, and every point it adds or takes off is listed under the score.
- The angle and the value lever are phrase counts. The most hits wins, and a tie goes to the one earlier in the list.
- The 3 test variants are written by AI and checked on our server: the first line within the placement's word count, the full copy no more than 30% longer than the original, no em dashes, and no number or claim the ad does not hold.
- We ran the tool on the 3 sample ads, the teardown ad, the cases we worked by hand and the hostile inputs of our checks: an empty box, 11 characters, a row of question marks, a script tag, a 2,500-character paste and a fourth variants run in one day.
- We read every price in the table on the vendor's own page on 2 November 2026, signed out.
