Instagram Profile Picture Downloader (FREE TOOL)

Paste a username, @handle or profile link. See the profile picture in full size, then download it. Public profile pictures only.

Built and checked by Marián Cabadaj. Last checked October 2026.

What the facts here come from

Instagram Help, changing your profile picture for the steps. It gives no size, shape or file type.

Instagram Help, public and private accounts for the profile picture of a private account being visible to anyone.

ScrapeCreators, Instagram profile for the HD and small file fields and the 150 x 150 small file. A third party: the data source the tool calls. We measured the HD file sizes ourselves.

Expert Photography, profile picture size guide for the circle of about 110 pixels on screen. A third party, because Instagram publishes no figure.

The example pictures on this page are Selzee's own mascot, drawn at the sizes Instagram serves.

The short answer

An Instagram profile picture downloader takes a username or profile link and gives you the picture as a file. Instagram keeps an HD file and a small file of every profile picture (ScrapeCreators field list). This tool shows the HD file and downloads it.
The HD file is the size the account uploaded. On 20 October 2026, Duolingo's was 1080 x 1080 and Nike's was 399 x 399. The tool prints the real size of every file.
Instagram publishes no size for the picture, and it shows the picture as a small circle. The profile picture of a private account is visible to anyone, so the tool works for those too. The posts stay private.

What you get back

Selzy, the Selzee mascot, as one profile picture in the files Instagram keeps. To check your own picture before you upload it, use the Instagram profile picture size checker. For TikTok, use the TikTok profile picture downloader.

Two real HD files and the circle, each drawn at a third of its size.

The files behind an Instagram profile picture

Largest first. Instagram publishes none of these numbers, so each one says where it comes from.

	Pixels	Source	What it is
HD file	up to 1080 x 1080	profile_pic_url_hd, measured	The size the account uploaded. The tool shows and downloads this one.
Small file	150 x 150	profile_pic_url	The fallback when an account has no HD file.
On screen	about 110 x 110	Size guides	The circle beside the name. Instagram publishes no size.

Two real accounts, measured

The HD files this tool downloaded on 20 October 2026.

	HD file	What it shows
Duolingo	1080 x 1080	The largest HD file we saw.
Nike	399 x 399	A smaller upload, so a smaller HD file.

How to download an Instagram profile picture

Paste the profile

A username, an @handle or a profile link such as instagram.com/heyselzee. Post and reel links do not work.
See it in full size

The tool asks for the public profile and shows the picture at the largest size Instagram serves, with its pixel size.
Download the file

One click saves a JPG named after the account. Download another starts again with an empty field.

Where a profile picture shows up in ads

Two Selzee ads built like social posts. The brand picture does the same job it does on a profile.

Private accounts, copyright and fair use

This tool gets public profile pictures only. Instagram shows the profile picture of every account, private ones too, to anyone on or off Instagram, and there is no setting to hide it. The tool cannot open private posts, stories or reels, and it does not try.

A profile picture still belongs to the person or brand that made it. Look at it and save it for research. Use your own picture freely. To publish someone else's picture, in an ad, a post or a product, ask the owner first. A picture of a person is personal data in many countries, so keep a saved face to yourself.

Why some profile pictures are 1080 and some are smaller

The tool downloads the file in the profile_pic_url_hd field of the ScrapeCreators field list. That field has no fixed size. Instagram keeps it at the size the account uploaded.

On 20 October 2026, Duolingo's HD file was 1080 x 1080 and Nike's was 399 x 399. The tool prints the real pixel size of the file it got, so you see which size an account has.

A larger copy made from that file has more pixels and no more detail. For a sharp picture of your own account, use the original file you uploaded. For one at a new size, start from that original, not from the download.

Instagram profile picture downloader: FAQ

How do I download an Instagram profile picture?

Paste the username or the profile link into the tool above and press View profile picture. The picture shows in full size. Press Download to save it as a JPG named after the account. Next, the ads: Selzee makes them from your store URL.

Can I see an Instagram profile picture in full size?

Yes. Instagram shows it as a small circle, about 110 pixels wide. The tool shows the HD file behind that circle as a square. That file is often much larger than the circle: Duolingo's was 1080 x 1080. When you want ads for your store, start free with Selzee.

Can I download the profile picture of a private account?

Yes. Instagram shows the profile picture of a private account to anyone on or off Instagram. The posts, stories and followers stay private, and this tool cannot see them. Running ads from your own profile? Selzee makes them from your store URL.

What size is the Instagram profile picture I download?

It depends on the account. The HD file is the size the account uploaded. We measured 1080 x 1080 for Duolingo and 399 x 399 for Nike. The tool prints the real size of every file it gets. When an account has no HD file, it falls back to the small file. For ads at the right size, let Selzee make them from your store URL.

Is it legal to download someone's Instagram profile picture?

Looking at a public picture and saving it for your own reference is normal use. The picture still belongs to its owner, so ask before you publish it anywhere. This is not legal advice. For ads you own outright, start free with Selzee.

Why does the downloaded picture look blurry?

The account uploaded a small picture, so the HD file is small too. Nike's was 399 x 399 when we checked. Shown larger than its own size, on a big screen or in print, a file gets soft. A sharper copy only comes from a larger original. For sharp ads in your brand, paste your store URL into Selzee.

Is an Instagram profile picture viewer the same as a downloader?

Here, yes. The tool shows the picture in full size first, so you can view it without saving. Download is a second click. When you want finished ads, start free with Selzee.

Do you keep the pictures I look up?

No picture file is kept. The tool keeps the username and the picture's address for 24 hours, so a second lookup of the same profile answers at once. It also counts lookups per connection for the daily limit. For the ad itself, paste your store URL into Selzee.

How we checked

Last checked: 20 October 2026. We read Instagram Help on changing a profile picture, which gives the steps and no size, and its pages on public and private accounts. We looked up Duolingo and Nike with this tool and measured the HD file of each. The field names and the 150 x 150 small file come from the ScrapeCreators documentation for the endpoint the tool calls; the 110 pixel circle comes from size guides, because Instagram publishes none.

Duolingo: an HD file of 1080 x 1080.
Nike: an HD file of 399 x 399, so the HD file is not one fixed size.
Every way to write a profile, and every link that is not one, is in one test file that the page and the server both read.
A lookup costs one call and is kept for 24 hours, so a repeat costs nothing.
The download comes from our server, which only fetches a stored address on an Instagram picture host. It never takes an address from you.
A file over 5 MB, a redirect or a file that is not a picture is refused.
The pictures on this page are Selzee's own mascot and ads from the Selzee gallery.
