Pinterest Help, Edit your profile for how to change the picture. It gives no size, so the 280 x 280 and the 120 and 64 pixel circles are our measurement of pinterest.com.

The short answer
- A Pinterest profile picture is the round image beside your name. Pinterest publishes no size for it. The largest copy it serves is 280 x 280 pixels, so export a square of at least 280 x 280. The same answer holds for the pinterest profile photo size and the profile picture dimensions.
- Pinterest draws the picture as a circle, 120 x 120 on a computer and 64 x 64 on a phone. A circle hides about 21% of a square, all in the corners, so keep the face or logo in the middle. We measured all of this on pinterest.com on 13 October 2026.

Kept as is. The bullseye is round and centred, so the circle takes only white corners.
Sephora, 280 x 280
Kept as is. The wordmark runs nearly edge to edge, and the circle comes close to its first and last letters.
Nike, 160 x 160
Kept as is: over the 120 pixel circle, though under 280. Pinterest serves it at 160 x 160, not scaled up.

Why check a profile picture before you upload
It is the smallest image on your profile, and it sits beside every Pin you save.
Logos lose their corners
A wordmark that runs edge to edge in a square loses its first and last letters to the circle before anything else.
Portrait photos lose more
A 4:5 photo from your camera roll loses 20% to the square before the circle takes the corners.
Pinterest gives no numbers
Its help page explains how to change the picture and nothing else, so the checker shows the circle on your file.
Pinterest publishes no profile picture size
Pinterest's help page on editing a profile tells you to click Change next to your profile photo and choose a file. It gives no size, no shape and no file type. So we read pinterest.com itself on 13 October 2026, logged out, at 1440 and 390 pixels wide.
The picture is drawn as a circle, 120 x 120 beside the name on a computer and 64 x 64 on a phone. The file behind it is served at up to 280 x 280: that was the size for Sephora, Target and Etsy. Nike's and Nordstrom's came back at 160 and 165 from the same address, so a smaller upload stays small. That is why this checker exports at 280 x 280 or larger and flags a file under 120 pixels, the size of the circle on a computer.

How to export one that survives the circle

Export a square of 280 x 280 or more
That is the largest copy Pinterest serves. A larger square, such as 1000 x 1000, is fine.

Keep the subject inside the circle
Centre the face or the logo, with space around it. Anything near a corner is hidden.

Make it readable at 64 pixels
On a phone the circle is 64 x 64. One bold shape or one face reads at that size; a tagline does not.

Use JPG or PNG
Pinterest names no types for a profile picture. Both are on its list for Pins, so both are safe.

We measured pinterest.com, logged out, in a browser at 1440 and 390 pixels wide: the circle's size on screen, and the largest copy Pinterest serves, from the profile data the site loads for Sephora, Target, Etsy, Nike and Nordstrom. The circle needs no source, because a circle inside a square covers pi over four of it.
- A non-square file is cut to a centred square first.
- The circle then hides about 21% of the square, all in the corners.
- A file under 120 pixels wide is flagged as soft.
- A larger square, like 1024 x 1024, is not flagged.
