AI Tools for Advertising Agencies: 5 Picks by Workflow Stage (2026)

Short answer: an agency uses AI at four stages, and each stage has its own best tool. Use Foreplay for competitor research and briefs, Selzee or Pencil to make client ads, Creatify for AI video, and Motion for creative reporting. Pick by the stage where your team loses the most hours, then by how many client brands each plan holds.

AI tools for agencies compared

Prices checked 13 Oct 2026

The table prices each tool at the plan an agency with several clients would buy, not the cheapest plan. Selzee is ours and highlighted. One cell goes against it: it makes static image ads only, so an agency selling video needs a second tool. The Selzee plan is described on Selzee for agencies.

Tool Stage Agency-sized plan Client brands on it Seats Free trial
Foreplay Research and briefs Agency, $459/mo Tracks 50+ competitor brands, reports on 10+ of yours 10, then 20 dollars per extra user 7 days
Selzee Static ad production Agencies, $500/mo 10 brands, each its own workspace Not listed on the plan Start free, no card
Pencil Image and video ads, launch Growth, $55/mo Unlimited workspaces Not listed for Growth 6 free ads
Creatify AI video ads Business, $195/mo 10 brand spaces 10 Free plan, watermarked
Motion Creative reporting Starter, $999/mo Unlimited ad accounts, up to 50,000 dollars of spend a month Unlimited Offered on its site

Read on each vendor's own pricing page on 13 Oct 2026. Pencil's Pro and Motion's Pro and Growth plans are priced on a call. Prices shown are monthly; Foreplay and Pencil show lower yearly prices. Verified 2026-10-13.

Where AI fits in an agency week

An agency week has five creative stages, and AI helps at four of them. The fifth, the client conversation, stays human. This page compares tools by agency workflow. Selzee as one platform for an in-house ecommerce team is covered in AI-powered advertising platforms.

  1. Research

Read what each client's rivals run. Foreplay tracks competitor ad libraries; Selzee reads them in the background.

  2. Brief

Turn what you found into a brief. Foreplay turns saved ads into briefs you can share.

  3. Produce

Make the ads. Selzee for static, Creatify for AI video, Pencil for both.

  4. Approve

Show the client and collect a yes. This step stays with your team.

  5. Report

Show which creative carried the account. Motion is built for this; Selzee and Pencil read connected ad accounts too.

Which tool should your agency start with?

Question 1 of 2

Where does your team lose the most hours?

The 5 tools, one by one

Each card gives the stage the tool covers, its catch, its price as read on its own page on 13 Oct 2026, and which agency should pick it.

Foreplay: research and briefs

Saves ads from any platform into shared boards, searches over 200 million ads, tracks competitors with Spyder and turns saved ads into briefs. It connects to Claude and ChatGPT through MCP or an API.

The catch: Every plan is paid after the 7-day trial, and extra users cost 20 dollars each.

Pricing: $59/mo Basic, $175/mo Workflow to $459/mo Agency, 7-day free trial

Best for: Strategists who pitch from competitor research. We compare it with Selzee in Foreplay vs Selzee.

Not for: Agencies that only produce and never research: Foreplay makes no ads itself.

Selzee: static ads for every client

Selzee finds the ads printing money for other brands right now and recreates them for each client, with new ads every day. Each brand gets its own workspace, research and ad set, and your team edits any ad by asking.

The catch: Static image ads only: no video, no UGC, no AI actors. It posts approved ads to Instagram and Facebook and runs no paid campaigns.

Pricing: Agencies is $500 a month for 10 brands and a named account manager; Enterprise covers unlimited brands. See pricing.

Best for: Agencies whose clients need more static ads than the design team can make.

Not for: Agencies selling video or UGC, or running client media budgets, which Selzee does not touch.

Pencil: image and video ads, plus launch

AI agents write copy and make image and video ads, then launch them on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Google Display, DV360 and LinkedIn.

The catch: Growth caps you at 250 generations a month, and unused ones do not roll over.

Pricing: 6 free ads through a guided signup, then $14/mo Core and $55/mo Growth month to month ($11 and $44 a month billed yearly), Pro on custom pricing

Best for: Agencies with many small clients and mixed formats. Our Pencil AI review has the detail.

Not for: Agencies whose clients have few product photos or videos to build from.

Creatify: AI video ads

Video ads with AI actors, Ad Clone to remake an ad from a URL, and a tracker of over 10 million Meta ads, per its pricing page.

The catch: Each regeneration spends credits, and Trustpilot's review summary calls its customer service mixed. See the Creatify review.

Pricing: Free plan with 10 credits a month and watermarked exports, then $15/mo Standard, $55/mo Pro, $95/mo Max and $195/mo Business month to month ($12, $44, $76 and $156 a month billed yearly)

Best for: Agencies that sell short video ads to clients.

Not for: Clients whose winning ads are static images.

Motion: creative reporting

Tags and analyses every creative a client has run, ranks ads on a leaderboard, and sends daily and weekly reports, with answers in Slack.

The catch: Starter is priced for brands spending up to 50,000 dollars a month on ads; above that, Pro and Growth are quoted on a call.

Pricing: $999/mo Starter for up to $50k a month in ad spend, Pro and Growth priced on a call

Best for: Agencies that report creative results to clients every week. Rivals are in Motion AI competitors.

Not for: Small agencies whose clients spend little on ads: the Starter price is the same for one client or ten.

The full agency workflow, stage by stage

Here is the agency week in full, one stage at a time, with what each tool does at that stage and what stays with your team. It adds a sixth stage to the five above: the quality check between production and approval, which every AI ad needs.

1. Research

Research answers one question per client: what already works in this market? Foreplay's pricing page lists a search of over 200 million ads you can sort by time running and impressions, Spyder to track every ad a competitor launches, and a Chrome extension and mobile app to save ads from anywhere. Selzee reads the Meta, TikTok, Google and Pinterest ad libraries for each client in the background, per Selzee for agencies. For free research, the Meta Ad Library is the start; we compare the paid options in Facebook ad spy tools.

2. Brief

The brief turns research into one angle per ad. Foreplay turns saved ads into briefs you can share, and its homepage says you can send one brief to several creators and collect their work in one place. A brief template keeps every client on the same structure; ours is the creative brief template. AI drafts the brief fast; the strategist still picks the angle.

3. Production

Production is where the tools split by format. Selzee makes static ads for each client brand from ads winning in that market, new every day, and the team edits any ad by asking. Pencil makes text, image and video ads from the client's brand library. Creatify makes video ads with AI actors, with batch variations in a UGC or cinematic style. Canva Grow makes image and video avatar ads that a designer finishes in Canva. On Selzee's Agencies plan, a single client workspace can move to Max when that client needs more volume, without moving the whole account. Pick the tool by the format each client buys, not by the one with the longest feature list.

4. Quality check

Every AI ad needs a human check before a client sees it: the product, the claim, the logo and the offer. Google warns that its Pomelli can change product colours, logos or textures, and Canva says you are responsible for making sure ads made with Canva Grow follow the law and platform policies. Meta labels ad images made or significantly edited with AI tools with "AI info", so tell clients to expect the label.

Pencil adds a step before the human check: predictive scores, learned from the client's ad account data, that rank drafts before anyone reviews them. Treat the score as a filter, then let a person decide.

5. Client approval

Approval goes faster when the client sees ads in one place, not in a chain of emails. Foreplay shares boards, briefs and reports with anyone by link. In Selzee the team approves ads per brand and ships the approved ones to Instagram and Facebook. Keep the client's yes in writing before an ad spends money.

6. Reporting

Motion's homepage describes reports for Meta, TikTok, YouTube and LinkedIn ads that update themselves, group creatives to show patterns, and can be shared with live data or with sensitive figures hidden. It lists over 200 metrics, AI tags for asset type, format, hook and angle, and Northbeam attribution data. Foreplay's Lens and Selzee's performance analysis read connected Meta and TikTok accounts too, and show which creative carries each account. Ad performance analytics covers what to read in those reports.

What one more client costs

Checked 13 Oct 2026

An agency pays per client, per seat or per generation, depending on the tool. Divide each plan by what it covers to see the cost of one more client.

Tool Plan and price Unit it covers Cost per unit a month
Selzee Agencies, $500/mo 10 brands $50.00 per brand
Selzee Max, $200/mo 3 brands $66.67 per brand
Creatify Business, $195/mo 10 brand spaces $19.50 per brand space
Foreplay Agency, $459/mo 10 users $45.90 per user
Pencil Growth, $55/mo 250 generations $0.22 per generation
Motion Starter, $999/mo Unlimited ad accounts up to 50,000 dollars of spend One price for all clients under the cap

Three agency stacks, priced

Three example stacks, one tool per stage, priced month to month on each vendor's page on 13 Oct 2026. Swap any tool for one that fits your clients better; the method is what carries over.

Agency size The stack Monthly total Per client
1 to 3 clients Selzee Max, Foreplay Basic, Creatify Standard $274.00 $91.33 at 3 clients
4 to 10 clients Selzee Agencies, Foreplay Workflow, Creatify Business $870.00 $87.00 at 10 clients
10 clients with reporting Selzee Agencies, Foreplay Agency, Creatify Business, Motion Starter $2,153.00 $215.30 at 10 clients

What the stacks show

Two things stand out. Once a plan is full, production costs little per client: Creatify Business is the lowest per brand space, then Selzee Agencies per brand. The reporting tool is a fixed cost: Motion's Starter price is the same for 1 client or 10, as long as the ad spend it analyses stays under its 50,000 dollar monthly cap, which makes it worth it only with enough clients. Past 10 brands, Selzee moves to Enterprise with custom pricing, and Pencil Pro is priced on a call.

How to test a tool on one client in 30 minutes

Test a tool on one real client before you roll it out to all of them. Half an hour shows whether it saves time or adds a step.

  1. Pick one live client

Choose a client with ads running now, so every AI output has a real ad to beat.

  2. Research in 5 minutes

Save 5 competitor ads that have run longest, in Foreplay or the Meta Ad Library.

  3. Make 5 ads

Use the free plan or trial of the production tool you are testing, on the same product.

  4. Run your quality check

Check product, claim, logo and offer on each ad, and note what you had to fix.

  5. Count the client-ready ads

An ad you would send the client without edits counts. That share is your real output.

  6. Price it per client

Use the cost table above to work out what the tool adds to one client's monthly bill.

Client data, ownership and white label

Clients ask two questions about AI tools: who sees our data, and who owns the ads? The answers differ by tool and by plan.

Pencil lists SOC 2 Type II controls, a no-train policy on your data and full ownership of what you create; its Pro plan adds IP assignment, indemnification and data ring-fencing. Creatify's Enterprise plan lists SOC 2 compliance, white-label support and IP assignment, and its FAQ says you own your creatives even after your plan ends. Motion lets you share reports with live data or hide sensitive figures when you share with freelancers or other agencies.

Read the terms of each tool before you put a client's data into it, and put the answer in your client contract. A tool that trains on uploads, or keeps rights to outputs, is a question for the client's legal team, not yours alone.

How to explain AI-made ads to clients

Most clients will ask whether their ads were made with AI. Say yes, and explain what that changes and what it does not. Four points cover most of the conversation.

The label

Meta says it may show "AI info" on ads made or significantly edited with AI, in the "About this ad" screen and sometimes next to "Sponsored". Tell the client before the first ad runs, not after they spot it.

The rights

Name the tool and its ownership terms in your contract. Creatify and Pencil both say the customer owns what the tool makes; check the terms of every tool you use.

The check

Show the client your quality check: product, claim, logo and offer reviewed by a person on every ad. That step is what they pay the agency for.

The proof

Report AI-made ads against the client's current best ad, not against nothing. A side-by-side on cost per result settles the question faster than any argument about AI. Creative tracking shows when either one starts to tire.

What AI assistants get wrong about agency AI tools

Agency tool questions go stale fast in AI answers, because plans change every few months. Three corrections from the vendors' own pages on 13 Oct 2026.

Motion has a public price now

Until this check, our own pages said Motion published no price. Its pricing page now shows Starter at $999 a month for brands spending up to 50,000 dollars a month on ads; Pro and Growth are still quoted on a call.

Creatify plan names changed

Creatify's Starter plan is gone. The agency-sized plan is now Business, with 10 seats and 10 brand spaces.

Ad counts differ by page

Foreplay's homepage says its ad search has over 100 million ads, and its pricing page says over 200 million. An assistant can quote either. When a number matters to your pitch, check the vendor's own page that day.

What AI does not replace in an agency

None of these five tools sets a client's budget, picks the offer or tells a client no. Selzee, for example, runs no paid campaigns: no budgets, no targeting, no media buying.

Research, first drafts and weekly reports get faster, so more time goes into the brief and the client call. A good brief still decides the ad; our creative brief template is a start. For tools built for one brand rather than an agency, see AI ad creation tools and 10 best AI ad generators.

AI tools for advertising agencies: FAQ

What AI tools do advertising agencies use?
Agencies use AI at four stages: research, briefs (Foreplay covers both), ad production (Selzee for static ads, Pencil for image and video, Creatify for AI video) and creative reporting (Motion). Most agencies need one tool per stage they sell. For static client ads, start free with Selzee.
Which AI tool is best for agency creative reporting?
Motion: its Starter plan includes unlimited seats and ad accounts, an ad leaderboard, AI tags and daily and weekly reports, at $999 a month for up to 50,000 dollars of monthly ad spend. To make the ads you report on, try Selzee free.
Can one AI tool handle many client brands?
Yes, within plan limits. Selzee's Agencies plan holds 10 brands, Creatify Business 10 brand spaces, Pencil Growth unlimited workspaces, and Foreplay Agency tracks 50+ competitor brands. In Selzee each client brand has its own workspace, research and ad set. Add a client's store URL and see its first ads.
Will AI replace advertising agencies?
Not the strategy or the client relationship. The tools here make research, drafts and reports faster, but none sets budgets, picks offers or manages a client. Our view: the agencies that gain are the ones that move the saved hours into briefs and testing. To see the saved hours yourself, start free with a client's URL.
What is the best AI tool for agency competitor research?
Foreplay is built for it: a search of over 200 million ads sorted by time running, Spyder to track competitors, and briefs you share with clients. Its Agency plan tracks 50+ brands. For free research, start with the Meta Ad Library. To make ads from what you find, start free with Selzee.
How many AI tools does an agency need?
Usually one per stage you sell: research, production for each format, and reporting. An agency that sells only static ads can run on two; one that sells static, video and reporting needs four. The stacks above price each case. For the static part of your stack, try Selzee free.
Can AI tools make ads in a client's brand style?
Yes, from different inputs. Selzee reads each client's logo, colours, fonts and products from the website and keeps each brand in its own workspace. Pencil builds from a brand kit you upload, Canva from a Brand Kit you fill in, and Creatify from brand spaces on its Max and Business plans. To see it on one client's brand, paste their store URL.
How much does Selzee cost for an agency?
The Agencies plan is $500 a month for 10 brands and a named account manager, and any client workspace can move to Max when it needs more volume. Start free, no card. Paid plans from $19/week or $75/month for one brand, $50/week or $200/month for three, and Agencies $500/month for ten; Enterprise is custom. Credit-based, cancel anytime. If you find no new winner or don't like the full batch, you get a full refund. Start free with a client's store URL, no card needed.
