Do static image ads still work, or is video better?

Static image ads still work on Meta. Meta's own guidance favours a mix of images and video, so test both in your account.

The answer

Static image ads still work, and most accounts do best running them next to video. Images are cheap to make, quick to test and easy to read in a scroll. Video can show a product in use and tell a longer story.

Meta's own guidance favours a mix. In its best practices for Advantage+ app campaigns, Meta reports that ad sets with a mix of images, videos and 9:16 vertical video with audio had a 9.1% lower cost per action than ad sets missing one of those. So test both formats instead of picking one side.

Selzee makes static image ads only, with no video, UGC or avatars. Use it for a steady flow of image ads, and make your video elsewhere.
