The answer

For a Facebook feed image ad, Meta recommends a 4:5 image at 1440 x 1800 pixels, saved as JPG or PNG. The minimum is 600 x 750 pixels, and the file can be up to 30 MB.

For Stories, Meta recommends a 9:16 image at 1440 x 2560 pixels. Keep roughly the top 14% and the bottom 35% of a Stories image free of text and logos, plus about 6% on each side. The profile name and the call-to-action button sit there.

If one ad runs in both feed and Stories, upload both sizes so neither gets cropped badly. Meta updates these specs from time to time, so check the Ads Guide before a big launch.
